Welcome to my blog which will be primarily used for my classes at Walden University. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Technology. I am very interested in what educators and school systems can do to provide students with a relevant education using the technologies that interest and motivate them, while preparing them for the 21st century skills that they will need to be successful in the future.

Cathy,
The length of your presentation was very appropriate. The presentation flow was smooth and the research was good for your topic. I especially like the animation which was attention getting. Nice Job!

PS: I have no idea how my presentation link appeared on your blog home screen (see above) but anything is possible.
Cathy,
What a well done presentation! Some of the things that stood out to me follow:
The animated clip near the beginning where the avatar appeared to address the audience was very engaging.
I liked the point you made about the level of change being not too easy (student will get bored) or not too difficult (student will get discouraged).
I like how you included specifics about Walden online courses in your presentation such as the visual of Dr. A's discussion board responses, and later your mention of the class cafe as a tool that builds student confidence.
It was clever of you to use a real expert on your subject matter (Mitra) as the keynote speaker you were introducing; it added authenticity to your presentation.
I found the research conclusion that the most engaged online students develop increased computer skills credible. This is my third online program, and I can confirm those research results to be accurate.
The baby on the computer was priceless!
Your final slide would leave a lasting impression on the audience, and I want to know how you got the applause at the end. That was ingenius!
Overall, good job!

Val,
I wondered the same thing about your presentation on Cathy's blog. I was using my Google Chrome browser and it was acting up, so I wasn't sure where I actually was. :)

Cathy:
I loved the embedded video regarding Microsoft’s Avatar Connect. I have never seen this resource before, but I am inspired to learn more. This was a great example of creating initial engagement for a task, and you superbly used it as an effective tool in your video presentation. I liked the inclusion of sufficient academic challenge – I find that so many educational resources found on the Internet can be “dumbed down” for basic or low-level learners, but may not be challenging enough for our more advanced students. I think that as computers become more intelligent, they are going to be able to tailor the online experience to the individual and provide a sufficient academic challenge that is unique to each user. You created such a great presentation that I found relevant and interesting – thank you!

Kathy,
Like the other viewers of your presentation, I am impressed with your final product. The avatar was an excellent resource to include in your presentation. As AJ also mentioned, using an expert authenticated your project. It was very evident that you thoroughly researched your topic in preparation for presenting your final topics. Your transitions between slides and specific word choice kept the reader focused while listening to your narration for a more thorough understanding of student engagement in distance learning.
Great Job!
